Every year at the end of July and for the past 10 years I have made my way back to the city I call home... Friends and family reunions and for the past 12 years in a row "Hotter Than July: Detroit Black Gay Pride". Much has changed there over the past decade. Detroit slowly but purposefully has emerged from is long decline from the 60's indeed July 23rd marked the 40th anniversary of the 12th street riots that marked the beginning of that decline. Today the downtown core is one massive investment zone with thousands flocking to live where once was abandoned buildings. The crown jewel of Detroit, The Book -Cadillac Hotel is as we speak finally being restored to its previous Glory.... Detroit continues to emerge even during the worst economic downturns the city has ever seen, still movies are being shot on location, The Island, Transformers... And giving people hope... Detroit Down but NEVER OUT! Holla!
