Calla Lilies For Easter




I have always associated the Calla Lily with religion. The art the lily symbolizes purity, and as the flower of the Resurrection and of the Virgin it is widely used at Easter. As they can sometimes symbolize chastity, and innocence, white lilies represent the purity of the Virgin Mary. The Angel Gabriel was often painted presenting Mary with a white lily when he announced to her that she would give birth to the Son of God.
