Birthdays!

So I've always loved Birthdays! This year was no exception, Saturday I had a great dinner and beers with my friend David...and as always awesome conversation! Sunday (my actual Birthday) I saw a great play "The three trials of Oscar Wilde" at Toronto's Tarragon Theater with my other friends Dave and Grant! I had three very creative photo-shoots (Ill post soon) with Andy, Andre and JR! And to cap off a great Birthday, Sunday evening at Crews with my friends Nigel as well as Abdi, Rinaldo, Patricia and Ayende and host of others! If one can grow older in the company of good friends, then thats a good thing!

My Father is an Artist.....

Part of my trip home was to visit my ailing mother, and to spend time with my father with whom I was afforded lots of quality time. I arrived at my parents home shortly after a summer rain fall and was amazed at the flowers blooming behind the house. It suddenly hit me that my father is an artist. Not the typical artist but one who has spent years creating and modifying and enhancing a seasonal pallet in the back yard. His art lasts for months weeks and sometimes only days at a time. Flower beds planted in such a way as to provide constant bloom through out the summer. My father is a man of few and usually carefully chosen words, who prefers to speak through the simplicity and beauty of the flower. This weekend I was listening.

Detroit Re-Born!

On a recent trip home to visit my family I had some time to kill downtown Detroit and I was struck at the major overhaul completed and in some spots still going on! People were in the streets, going to and fro, watching a concert in the center core stage, eating outside al-fresco! I found myself snapping pictures of a city I had not seen in 30 years, a city re-born, clean and full of life! I was at once a tourist and a proud to say Detroit is my home town! Suddenly the defiant fist of Joe Louis which once seem to symbolize the violence of a down trodden city now signals the strength of a city which is going through its worst economic times and doing it style and grace. Here are just a couple shots!

Deep Dickollective Hits Block-o-rama at TDots Pride!

One of the hottest acts at this years Block o rama was a rap group out of Washington DC... They really amped up the crowd!
Deep Dickollective Founded in 2000, D/DC represents a "coming out" in hip-hop. Together Juba Kalamka (Pointfivefag), Tim'm T. West (25Percenter) and Jeree Brown (JB RapItUp) are the brave mavericks of a movement that some affectionately refer to as homo-hop. Their political lyricism does not take itself too seriously They are Oxymoronic "out" black queer Emcees the world says do not exist. They are the rumblings of a revolution that have for too long been silenced. Their album "The Famous Outlaw League of Proto-Negroes" (2004) was named to Out Magazine's Top Ten Gay Albums of The Year list. Their fifth album will be released in 2006.
